“Om Shanti” is the basic version of Shanti mantra. Shanti mantra is chanted for invoking peace and is very widely used in Hinduism and religions like Buddhism and Jainism. Usually Shanti mantra is chanted three times as “Om Shanti, Om Shanti Om Shanti”. Shanti is repeated thrice since it is chanted for peace in the body, mind and spirit. It is also chanted thrice to make the past, present and future peaceful.
